Kids Rooms Makeovers

Courtney's Room

Courtney and her mother are really into the retro look and wanted Courtney's room to reflect this. We found amazing furniture which we stripped back and put together with some bright colours to make a very inexpensive but effective look. We rearranged her artwork and grouped it so it was more interesting to the eye. We arranged her extensive collection of small figurines into shelving with perspex doors across it to decrease the need for dusting them, a somewhat time consuming business as there are so many. This was a very tight budget but i think it is an effective look done really well.

Ruben's Room

Great room for the young teenager, especially one who loves orange. Orange being a calming colour is restful in a bedroom.

Budget had to include furniture, wall painting, linens, and blinds.

This room was built in a house extension. The wardrobe was moved into an enclave that was a space for a built in wardrobe, but this one matched the bed and the desk and happened to fit perfectly.

This furniture is a Turkish brand we introduced to NZ but no longer carry, we do however have a relationship with the current supplier and can negotiate some great rates.

Ruben is 13 and needed some fun space but also is getting ready for that age of serious study time, he loves sports and the outdoors so this room is fun in bringing that feel inside.

Ruben's Dad is very inventive and somewhat of a handiman himself so instead of using the army box on the ground he hung it on the wall, put in a shelf and voila......we have builders who can do such things for your rooms too if you like these ideas, or we can work with you on new inventive ideas. Utilising space in Ruben's room is a must as it is not the largest space and needed to fit a lot of things into it.

The space above the wardrobe is still to be fitted with the camo mesh to hide the mess of board games etc, and the blinds are yet to be stenciled with matching writing to the army box.

Ruben likes to play playstation games and can do this from his bed with the TV mounted on the wall, also keeping space useage effective.

The REM camo duvet cover of course matches this range to perfection.

Dylan's Room

Great Room for teenage boy.

Budget had to include furniture, chair, linens, TV, TV hanger, blinds, and painting walls.

Great room for teenage boy. Dylan loves red so mixing the silver furniture which is neutral but bright and space aged style, gives it some lift and makes it feel modern and hip.

Study is important for this age so having a space that doesn't feel cluttered but is organised and functional is imperative.

Space is an issue as this room has no closet space so small areas to store his clothes and CDs etc has been important soas not to clutter the room but again utilise function.

This was all put together with Dylan choosing his options, collecting pieces for function but at a very reasonable cost, but also that would last.

Dylan's mother was very involved in this process and had we had some great finds together.

Dylan's Dad is a bit of a handiman, building the extension on the house himself even though he is a Telecom man, so has some inventive ideas such as hanging the clothing storage off the chain to aid in giving the room the grunge teen boy feel.

Stacey charges a $150 consultation fee, which is discounted from furniture if you buy from REM. Any further sourcing and putting together of the room is $40/hour. REM Designers however can get you back most of that in the discounts we can usually get through most stores for your room.

Yasmin & Danika's Room

These gorgeous girls stay with their Dad but not all the time. We had to fit them both into one room....once again a small room so we used the bunks not only for their stacking abilities but also their storage space, they have cubbies on the end and closed cupboards but we removed the doors for this small space.

Utilising the great new range of Electric Blue furniture we have bunks, drawers, the freckles range of linens, and the Thumbelina painting by Yolande Light. We have several muralists we can recommend depending on style we think best goes with what you want.

Nichol's Room

Budget included designing furniture, and making curtains.

So we designed the fantastic rock climbing bunk, painted a gun metal grey featuring footholds on the side for climbing up as an alternative to using a ladder.

Ladder's stick out into the room which can be a pain.

We painted a target on the side which splits as you move around the room. We shot up the side which also flaps down to make it easier to make the upper bed. It can be just a loft bed or can have the lower bed.

The lower bed is removable and optional to move in any direction in the room. Incredibly versatile a great product for the growing boy. It also has a squab at the back so it can be like a couch. It lines up with the desk which has the TV mounted above it. The computer on the desk can be used for computer games and playstation from the bottom bed.

The desk, has really cool plastic legs and was from ECC but we covered the top with black steel which has a rainbow effect on it, this one we coated so it doesnt rust and it looks jet black.

We used camo mesh in red and black as a shear and gorgeous silk red black fabric fo rthe drapes which also reflects the dropped oil look. One of my favourite bedrooms.

Christy's Room

Beautiful young teen girls room.....We took out her single bed and designed a beautiful simple 4 poster bed with square metal posts and a white headboard. Dressed with white linens and gold and soft pink organzas overhead to match the stunning embroidered curtains.....also some white sequoined curtains at the end from Nest making the look complete. A long white meltica desk one half for girls make up and the other half for home work made to sit in front of the window looking into the inner court yard. Three cubes on wheels underneath to store all young girls things, one of which can be a bedside table......Photos to come.

Two Teenage Sister's Room

These two sisters have a lot of stuff. We put this fabulous bunk from our past range into the room to fit 2 beds in but leave some space in the room. A long chest of drawers in a gorgeous pink 3 large drawers each side for each girl also can house all their girly bits on top. Behind a great wild horse mural from our range as the girls love animals especially horses. We redesigned the inside of the built in wardrobe to ensure maximun fit of all their stuff inside. A lot of space was found in here!! Repainted the walls new blinds and the room was transformed.

Under 5s Boy and Girl Room

These two young children needed to share a room and their mother looks after other children as well after school so they had a lot of toys and a lot of clothes to fit into their room and it was a complete mess. We designed a bunk in their favourite colour red but softened to ensure red didnt hype them up for bed time. This room needed a lot of storage spaces so we added shelving and a large cupboard unit with drawers, cupboards and a center door that looks like 4 doors but is 2 to hide the TV and videos. In the center of the room we designed a play table come large square ottoman for the children to lie on when fitted with the squab and take off the squab it turns into a giant play table with a lip on the edge so their many track toys didnt fall off the edge. Holding the table top is 4 cube drawers so the toys can be easily scooped into the drawers when play is finished and the squab put on top for rest time or TV watching. You can also take off the squab and table top and store them behind the bunk and put the 4 cube drawers against the wall to make an open space if needed in the center of the room. The little boys favourite character was Ninja Turtles and the little girls favourite character was Dora the Explorer so we had our muralist paint 2 fantastic murals on that walls.
